Crime of the century? There is plenty of competition! Let's see. The lies about WMDs and the invasions of Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria are in the running--war crimes certainly. The horrendous tortures committed by US interrogation teams--crimes against humanity. The crash of 2008, leaving 8-10 million families losing their homes, and not a single major Wall St banker was prosecuted for financial crimes. Far too many died of Covid due to an ill-equipped health care system driven by profits. However, those are crimes that we have seen before (Vietnam, 1930s Great Depression, preventable diseases routinely unaddressed etc).
For sheer stupidity, audacity, and mass hysteria, the Jan 6th coup attempt takes the prize. The empire is crumbling and neo-fascists are in the streets.
